The pandemic came to life architecturally, the need for a strategized and organized world as well as the desire to escape the routine, are reflected in this social space that is designed in an unconventional way: the space begins on the ground floor (public functions) and extends downwards into the lower levels (more private functions) instead of extending upwards.
The project develops between two grids, the existing structure composed of very thick columns and defining the “heavy part” of the communal area, and a new 3-dimensional modular grid – the “light element” of the private sleeping pods.
Parts of the slabs are strategically subtracted to free the new grid and let it to grow vertically like an inverted tree between the voids and around the existing slabs. The voids allow the natural light to find its way underground, and the visual connections to complete the weaving of the internal spaces.
